Do I Need to Replace More Than One Tire at a Time?

one tire

Savvy car owners all know one thing to be true: healthy tires make for a healthy car. So long as you keep your tires in good shape, your ride will remain smooth. Keep reading to learn more about the importance of proper tire maintenance.

The common practice today is for all four tires to match exactly. This helps increase efficiency for acceleration and braking.

Can you replace just one tire if you want to?

Yes, of course you can. You can just change one tire if you wish to. If the other tires are working fine and still have a healthy treadl, you can easily just change the one tire if you need to.

However, you need to make sure that the new tire is compatible with your other tires. Whenever you use a new tire, the older ones will spin faster as they have lost more tread depth. This inconsistency can make the AWD system engage differently on pavement and can cause extensive damages to the system of the car.

Some vehicles have a system that requires all four tires to be replaced at the same time. Information about this can be found in your owner’s manual.

What can you do to match the new tire with the older ones?

  • One good thing that you can do is to shave your new tire. By getting your new tire shaved, you can match up all of the tread depths of your tires.

  • Make sure that the new tire you are using belongs to the company and is of the same brand and design as the other tires.

  • Check that other tires are not too worn down. If they have only lost around 2/32 or 4/32 of their tread depth, then you can just replace a single tire. If they have lost more than that much tread, then you should get all of your tires changed.

Now that you are aware of these essential steps, it’s time to get the most out of your tires and your car. If you need help figuring out how to keep your tires healthy, schedule a service appointment today.
